*Space is Limited – and tribe member students get first priority.
The Cherokee Nation Foundation has arranged a six-week ACT prep course conducted by one of the most prominent test preparation companies in the business. The CNF makes it free to tribe members and usually a a substantial discount even to non-tribe members. Funds are now available to make this available for free to ALL students, whether tribe members or not. See the forms for requirements.
Because space is limited, students will need to commit to actually attend the classes in order to have a ‘slot’ paid for and reserved in the class.

V.I.E. — for Vian
Grants Program – 2019
V.I.E.– Vian’s Innovators and Educators Grants Program– announces its third year supporting programs and projects that benefit the community and schools of Vian. VIE is supported by Vian alumni, merchants, and residents through the Vian Community Foundation. So far, VIE has made about $13,000 in grants, and our plan for 2019 is another $10,000. VIE seeks applications for projects and programs for which its funding could yield maximum impact for Vian.
In 2017 & 2018 – our first two years — VIE supported programs like a high school hydroponics project, an innovative grade school art program, field trips to museums and plays, musical instruments for grade school music programs, and more. Typical grants ranged from about $500 to 2,000. Other examples of the types of projects that could be supported include scouting or Junior Achievement-type programs, STEM programs or supplies, software, or guest speakers and instructors. The program is not limited to school-related projects; community and adult-focused programs are encouraged.
VIE Grant winners will be selected based primarily on their potential to take limited funds and create maximum educational, cultural, or civic impact, especially of types underserved by existing organizations or funding sources. Special emphasis and consideration will be given for projects proposed by individuals willing to volunteer meaningful amounts of their own personal time to the project, including after-school, weekend or evening programs for students or adults. A primary goal of the program is to spur and support volunteer activity that benefits the Vian community.
Community leaders, volunteers, teachers, administrators, and others eager to help our community can qualify for a VIE grant by completing the application and agreeing to take responsibility for implementing the project.
Applications are requested by June 1, 2019, and most awards should be announced by August 2019. However, applications and grants may be considered outside this schedule if projects require a specific deadline or time frame (e.g., a summer program). Please see the Criteria set out on the attached information sheet. Selections will be made by a committee appointed by the sponsors and the Community Foundation. Each grant will be a one-time funding, so projects requiring ongoing or continued support will not be favored.
VIE is a project of the Vian Community Foundation. VIE’s sponsors include Dr. William & Brandie Anderson, Richard Armstrong & Dr. Dlynn Armstrong, August & Jacquelyn Khilling, Dr. Pat & Suzanne Sullivan (Triton Health), John & Michelle Traw, Dr. Bill & Jana Parker (Vian Eye Clinic), Sally Armstrong, and Jeff Cotner & Hometown Oklahoma Development LLC.
MORE INFORMATION:
Grant Amounts:
Individual grants are expected to be between a few hundred dollars and approximately $2000. Based on current funding, it is anticipated that approximately 10 grants will be available in 2019.
Timing:
Applications are requested by June 1, and most awards should be announced by August 2019. However, applications and grants may be considered outside this schedule if projects require a specific deadline or time frame (e.g., a summer program).
Criteria:
Selection criteria will emphasize cost-effective projects or expenditures that will provide meaningful educational, cultural, or civic benefits at modest cost – especially those in which the applicants are willing to dedicate their own personal time to implement the project. Fields that are otherwise under-supported will be favored. The requests should be projects or expenditures that can benefit from a one-time funding and that do not require repeated, annual or ongoing support. Ordinarily, VIE will support new programs rather than fund programs already in existence which have previously been funded from other sources. Our goal is to make things happen for Vian that would not otherwise happen without VIE.
Application and Selection:
The selection committee is authorized by the Vian Community Foundation and will consist of VIE donors/sponsors, a member of the Foundation’s board, and other community leaders, alumni, or educators not currently employed at Vian Public Schools. The committee’s decisions will be final. The committee and the Community Foundation reserve the right to cancel the VIE program or to defer some or all grant decisions if insufficient satisfactory applications are received.
Application forms are attached. Additional documents or pages are welcome if appropriate or helpful. Submit completed applications as instructed on the application form. Please make certain that you have received a return confirmation that your application has been received. The committee may follow up to ask further questions request additional information.
The Funds:
Funding for the VIE Program is provided by donations to the Vian Community Foundation. Listed sponsors have designated their gifts specifically for the VIE program.
